Course Description

This is the third of five courses of the Leadership Excellence in Africa’s Public Sector (LEAPS) Program. The LEAPS Program is designed for senior officials in the Public Financial Management (PFM) with the skills needed for effective governance and public sector performance across Africa. The LEAPS program is offered in English and French.

This course focuses on cultivating effective leadership practices within diverse and dynamic team environments. It delves into the principles of distributed or co-leadership, emphasizing the importance of shared responsibility and co-responsibility in driving team success. The course also explores strategies for fostering equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, ensuring that all team members feel valued and engaged.

Target Audience

The course is designed for senior officials in public finance and public administration.

  • Cultivate a leadership approach that promotes shared responsibility and accountability, enabling team members to co-lead and take ownership of team outcomes.

  • Build and sustain a diverse and inclusive team environment that fosters equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, where every member is respected, recognized, and rewarded for their contribution.

  • Create and maintain healthy team dynamics by fostering psychological safety, trust, and constructive feedback, ensuring effective collaboration and team success.

  • Enhance the team’s agility and ability to respond collectively to change and complexity while effectively managing conflicts that may arise.

  • Support the growth and development of team members through coaching, mentoring, and fostering a results-oriented culture that drives performance and continuous improvement.
